Fire risk assessments
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment. Extinguishers are one control. The assessment is how you decide what else the premises needs.
Scope
- Identify fire hazards and people at risk, including visitors and contractors
- Evaluate existing measures: detection, alarm, escape, signage, extinguishers, emergency lighting
- Record significant findings and a prioritised action plan
- Review triggers โ change of use, layout, occupancy or a near miss
Servicing of portable extinguishers remains a separate programme under BS 5306-3. Most clients book both.
Guidance: GOV.UK fire safety and the Fire Industry Association.
